Eggenhofer, Nick. 1897-1985. Born in Bavaria, lived in Cody, Wyoming. Well known as the “King of the Pulp” for his western dry brush illustrations. He was inspired by the Wild West Shows eventually creating western vignettes for Street and Smith during the 1920s and 1940s from his New Jersey studio. Moved to Wyoming and produced watercolors and oils for several galleries. He is highly collected; several museums house his artwork. Received the National Cowboy Hall of Fame Trustee Award in 1973. Return to the Fort was given to Scotty Zion by friend, John Popovich. Includes the book, Eggenhofer, the Pulp Years, by John M. Carroll, published by Mike Koury, Old Army Press, Zion and Popovich mutual friend. The painting is featured on the first two pages.
