Made in Budapest during the brief German occupation of Hungary. Hooded blade front sight and tangent rear, with "jhv/ 44" marking on the receiver ring and "G98/ 40" on the sidewall. Matching numbers. Laminated stock, with "WaA173" on the underside ahead of the trigger guard, "jhv" behind the guard and a flat buttplate. The number on the stock corresponds to the rifle with the second digit "7" being an overstrike, possibly a factory error. With a brown leather sling and a "43fze" (Holler, Solingen) bayonet with 10" blade, ribbed plastic grips and metal sheath.
BBL: 24 inch round
Gauge: 8 mm
Serial Number: 8739
Condition: Very fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina and scattered handling marks. Stock is also fine, with the screwhead absent from the front band and a few mild chips and dings. Sling is cracked but supple, and the bayonet is very good with some bright wear. Mechanically excellent.
