This fabulous bronze sculpture from the late nineteenth century depicts Napoleon Crossing the Alps, after the oil paintings by Jacques-Louis David which were completed between 1801 and 1805. It measures 16 by 16 by 8 inches (40.6 by 40.6 by 20.3 cm) and weighs an estimated 30-45 lbs. (13.6-20.4 kg). The quality of the casting is exceptional, as seen in the details on Napoleon's face, uniform and sword. Patina color features warm shades of brown with hints of forest green color. This work is titled in the cast NAPOLEON with reference to ANNIBUS on the lower left corner, and is signed DAVID in the lower right corner. On the lower right side is the foundry mark "R. Patrouilleau Editeur". Sculptor is unknown. This item resides with our client in northern New Jersey and may be seen in person by appointment.
