This is a Montenegrin Gasser Pattern Double Action Revolver in a 44 caliber. Montenegro is a small mountainous country in Europe. It has had a tumultuous history of wars and revolutions. King Nicolas, the ruler of Montenegro from 1910-1918, made a proclamation that, “Every Citizen of Montenegro is a member of the Militia, and therefore not only justified but also obligated to possess at least one Gasser Pattern revolver.” The Gasser Pattern revolver he was referring to was the Austrian Gasser Model 1870. Most of the Gassers for Montenegrin were made in Belgium and Spain, with this believed to be a Belgian manufacture, with none surprisingly made in Montenegrin. This exceptional early example shows nearly 95%+ blue’d finish with bone carved grips (please review pictures for originality of finish). The revolver has a 5 3/8” round barrel and takes a 44-40 (44 Winchester) caliber round (11.25x36mm). Marked, "FOR 44 WINCHESTER CARTRIDGES BELGIUM" along with the appropriate proof acceptance marks. Serial number of 5. Curio & Relic FFL Transfer or NICS Background required.
