Missouri War Axe Attributed to the Sauk & Fox. 23 ½" tacked haft. 9 ½" blade with large, heavy hand-forged iron head featuring a circular piercing in the center with filed lines, representing the sun. The haft is adorned with brass tacks and a short fringed buckskin sleeve. Pictured in the "Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art," 2009 (Page. 118, fig.185) and also in "The Missouri War Axe: War Tomahawk of the Plains and Prairies," 2010 by Mark Francis. (Page 60, fig. 71). Circa 1840.
