This lot offers you an exceptional artifact from the Ancient Native American Indians of the Mississippian Culture Period, originating from Cross County, Arkansas. The fine piece shows immaculate detail for age, and still shows subtle traces of a polychrome finish. The vase originates from circa 1000 AD, and comes from the renowned Hasso Von Winning (1914-2001) collection. Winning was an archeologist and anthropologist who was a widely published scholar of Pre-Columbian and West Mexican cultures, publishing hundreds of monographs and articles from the 1960's through the 1990's. Von Winning was the consultant in Mesoamerican Archeology with the Southwest Museum from 1960-90. The piece shows excellent condition, with great provenance. The piece measures 7 3/8" tall, and approximately 5 1/2" wide and deep.
