Matte painting of Jupiter’s moon Io by Michele Moen from 2010. (MGM, 2010) This is a magnificent section of the huge Jupiter moon Io in bas relief sculpture which was painted by the talented matte painter Michele Moen. It is a convex dish constructed of sturdy wooden frame about 6-8 in. tall and almost 6 ft. in diameter. It features the various volcanic mountains and topography gleaned from actual Voyager images supplied to the production by consultant Dr. Richard Terrile of JPL. This moon was used for shots during the spacewalk sequence.
