Massive Engraved Charles Boswell Double Barrel Hammer 4 Bore Shotgun
This massive 4 bore double barrel hammer shotgun weighs in at 24.1 pounds. Marked "CHARLES BOSWELL MAKER. 126. STRAND. LONDON. W.C." on the solid concave rib with a single brass bead sigh and a wedge of English scroll engraving on the breech end. The massive frame is engraved with ducks in a marsh scene and each lock is engraved with ducks in a marsh scene and marked "CHARLES BOSWELL". There are pegs extending from each side of the frame so that the shotgun can be mounted for use. The break lever is mounted on the underside of the frame and it is mounted with a checkered, wedge secured forearm with iron forend inset and straight grip stock with a smooth bare butt. Length of pull is 13 3/8".

Condition: Very good as refinished, the barrels which retains 95% period blue finish with a few minor dents and scattered minor oxidation. The break lever, locks, hammers and trigger guard have a smooth dark brown patina and the frame has a smooth mottled brown patina. The stock has been either shortened or repaired at the wrist. Directly behind the splice is a plug and the checkering does not match up quite right. Otherwise overall there are scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent.
