This lot features a Extremely Rare Marlin Model 1888 Top-Eject Octagon Barrel .32-20 Caliber Rifle. The rifle features 24" octagon barrel, top ejects, full length magazine, and deluxe wood. Marlin Model 1888 extremely rare top-eject octagon rifle in .32-20 caliber, made 1889. This was Marlin’s first “pistol cartridge caliber” rifle offered and it seems almost this entire model (which was only made for two years) saw very hard use and often abuse. This one has the common "horse roll-over" cracked wrist area of the butt stock (frequent occurrence when rifles were kept in saddle scabbards) which has an authentic frontier/blacksmith repair with screws and bolts (would be easy to have repaired so the bolts are not visible), aside from that the balance of the rifle is fine, only 4,814 Model 1888s were made and of these only 1,785 were in .32-20 caliber, fancier than standard walnut in the butt stock, overall barrel, magazine and receiver are an even and uncleaned dark aged blue that is mixing plum/brown, exc. Marlin markings including the correct 1887 patent date on the barrel top, tight action, bore has good rifling, buckhorn rear sight with small copper blade/bead front sight. The most difficult Marlin model to find in any condition and the last top-eject Marlin model produced after which all were side eject. Great frontier appearance. The short-lived Model 1888 Marlin is almost never encountered for sale. This rifle was manufactured in 1889. Antique firearm. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. Serial number is 26090.
