This is an early copy of a French illustrated novel, originally published in 1859 - Tappeurs De L'Arkansas, by Gustave Aimard, and published by Amyot. The novel covers much on topics such as early American fur traders, trappers, Apache Native American Indians, and the fight for Texas independence. The hard-cover, leather bound novel displays many wonderful illustrations throughout. Gustave Aimard (1818-1883), a French citizen, found himself in the Americas twice, once being "adopted" into a Comanche tribe, the second time as a miner, going to Mexico. Mining operations failed, due to lack of permits, and the crew of 150 instead proceeded with an attempted conquest of Mexico. Through his incredible travels, Gustava was able to write over 70 novels. This book is absent a date, though it appears to be an early copy. The book is in good condition overall, though it shows wear indicative of age. The novel measures 11 3/8" tall, 7 7/8" wide, and 1 1/4" thick.
