1917-2010. Born in Great Falls. Parents were friends with C.M. Russell. Went to Russell’s house as a kid for advice, but went to the house, not the studio. Russell’s son, Jack, answered the door thinking Les was there to play. Felt Russell, Carl Runguis, and Charles Biel influenced his work. Studied with Biel at his Banff studio. Attended University of Montana and the University of Oregon. Served in the Army 11th Cavalry on the Mexican/California border; later served with the 13th Armored Division in France and Germany during WWII. After the war, Peters attended the Arts Student League and Central Park School of Art. His notable work includes dioramas at the Montana Historical Society, a mural from the Florence Hotel in Missoula, and a painting owned by past president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Painted western scenes, Native Americans, cowboys. Wildlife was his most painted subject. Instrumental in the establishment of the CMR Museum. The painting is a gift to his friend, Scotty Zion.
