Late Victorian English Double Rifle, by E. Roberts, Birmingham, #9872, .450-3-1/4 black powder Express cal., 26'' matte game rib blue barrels, with three-leaf Express sights having platina bands (leafs are calibrated 200 and 500), case hardened frame, hammers, back lock, triggerguard and underlever; steel case hardened buttplate cap and two-piece skeletal buttplate all show light border engraving, as does frame and lock; small gold inlaid ''(circle)/(triangle)/R'' Roberts' logo impressed between hammers; Birmingham proof at watertable and to bottom of barrels. Fine European pistol-grip checkered walnut stock and splinter forend with Anson style push-button release. Right barrel marked ''E. Roberts, 141 Steelhouse Lane''; left barrel marked ''& 22 Weaman St. Birmingham''. Sling swivel eyelets are present, as is blank shield-shaped silver escutcheon to top of stock comb. Condition is excellent. Barrels retain approx. 98% blue. Rich dark case hardened components show only the slightest browning and minor marks from handling. Stock checkering is crisp; stock shows only light impressions from 140 years of handling. Action is crisp, bores are bright. One original cartridge is included with brass measuring 3.25'' long.
