Zabel, Larry. 1930-2012. Born in Minnesota; went to school in a one room country schoolhouse and later lived in McAllister, Montana. Started painting at age 3, moved to California when Zabel was eight years old. Attended UC Santa Barbara, University of Americas in Mexico, and graduated from Long Beach State. Served in the Navy, worked as an illustrator/writer for Douglas aircraft, Geng Corp., and later China Lake Naval Weapons Testing Facility. In that 20 year period, Zabel painted a series of naval combat art displayed at the Naval Archives Center in Washington D.C. Purchased property in Montana and painted scenes of western genre, especially ranching and Native Americans, and wildlife. Collected throughout the United States. Died of C.M. Leukemia.
