Included for your consideration in this lot is an exceptional example of a Navajo Native American Indian wool rug, weaved in the traditional Ganado pattern. The wool rug dates as early as the late 1800's, and shows gorgeous mineral dyed coloring. The Ganado style was established by Lorenzo Hubbell in the late 1800's, and originates from the geographical center of the Navajo reservation, located just Southwest of the Crystal trading post. The Ganado motif generally consists of a predominantly red background, and utilizes stepped borders, showing red, gray, black, and soft white elements - This rug is no acception. The rug is weaved of supple, soft wool fibers, and shows a tight weave. Overall, the early rug shows very good condition, absent of color bleeding, tears, or general separation of the fibers. This particular rug is the largest Navajo textile that North American Auction Company has offered to date. The rug measures 79 1/2" long, and 64 3/8" wide.
