Provided for bidding in this lot is an antique Kenyan - Maasai Peoples, Ol Alem herders sword. The Maasai peoples territory lies in Kenya and Tanzania. These swords would be carried by herdsman to protect their livestock against lions and other predatory animals of the region. These blades are traditionally crafted with a double-edged leaf style blade, utilizing a heavy medial ridge, and set tightly into the wooden hilt - wrapped in leather - This sword is no exception. The thin handle of the blade sticks prominently out of the red leather scabbard, which is capped on the tip with a brass closure - holding the leather wrap securely. The sword is in good condition overall. The sword - when inserted into the scabbard measures 23 1/4" long, and 3" wide.
