Jolly Green Giant puppets
Jolly Green Giant puppets. A collection of Green Giant plaster puppets from the late 1950s advertising campaign. Minnesota Valley Canning Co. developed the Giant as a product trademark in 1928, but didn’t appear as a “Jolly” Green Giant until the 1950s when a new ad campaign was launched and the animation sequences were produced. The sculpting of the puppets is attributed to Henry Lion, who worked on the The Beast of Hollow Mountain as well as Emilio and His Magical Bull. Included are two bodies (one missing left foot, the other missing lower left leg), seven heads of various facial expressions with teeth painted white, as well as five arms, two legs and a torso. A wonderful group of lesser known Henry Lion puppet elements from the golden age of replacement animation.
