Johnnie,NV - Nye County - c1900 - Johnnie Mining and Milling Co. Ephemera :
Johnnie District, located in southwestern Nevada on the north end of Pahrump Valley. Lot of 2 items: An article and advertisement from The Pacific Monthly (No Date), urging investment in the Boston-Johnnie Mine; 2) Two blank billheads/invoices from the mine, datelined Johnnie, Nevada, 191x. Originally known as Montgomery, the town of Johnnie was organized in 1891 just after gold was discovered in the district. Most of the placer workings were in the washes below the Congress Mine, just east of Montgomery Mountain. Other mines in the area were the Overfield and the Labbe. The story of the Johnnie Mine involves the “Lost Breyfogle” discovery, but no one knows positively if they are the one and the same. Folklore has it that the community was named after Ash Meadows Johnnie, or Indian Johnnie, who helped find the way to the site after the death of Breyfogle. There is also a Johnnie Mine listed in Lincoln County.
