(Warner Bros., 1957) Tan leather aviator flight helmet worn by James Stewart in his role as “Charles Lindbergh” in The Spirit of St. Louis. It features a full quilted cloth lining, leather chin strap with buckle and pair of snaps on the back for securing the aviation goggles strap. Internal Warner Bros. costume tag handwritten, “7/11/55 393 Jas. Stewart Lindberg [sic] Helmet 2-8152.” The helmet features prominently throughout the flying sequences in the film as well as promotional stills of Stewart standing by the plane. It exhibits some wear and surface scuffs above the left ear, but the leather remains supple and in very good condition with no cracks or breaks. An iconic artifact from one of James Stewart’s defining roles.
