Two items related to James Means (1853–1920), an industrialist who designed model gliders and widely published information about flight: a booklet entitled "The Problem of Manflight" by James Means, published in Boston by W. B. Clarke in 1894, 5.75 x 9, 20 pages, with the bookplate of Audouin Dollfus affixed inside the front wrapper; and an original vintage 5.5 x 4 photograph of his soaring machine, taken circa 1893–1894. In overall very good to fine condition, with splitting along the spine and some small areas of paper loss to the covers of the booklet.
