JUMP WINGS AND AIRBORNE PATCH OF 101ST AIRBORNE M/SGT.
JUMP WINGS AND AIRBORNE PATCH OF 101ST AIRBORNE M/SGT. GEORGE S. SELGRAT, D-DAY AND BASTOGNE VETERAN
An excellent and very desirable grouping of items from a member of the 101st Airborne, M/Sgt. George S. Selgrat of Chicago who enlisted on July 28, 1942. Selgrat's Chicago Sun-Times 1998 obituary indicates that as a member of the 101st he had "participated in parachute landings on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge". Excellent grouping of relics includes Selgrat's sterling silver jump wings, 1 1/2" wide, marked "STERLING" on the reverse, along with his two-piece Type 3 "Screaming Eagle" shoulder patch cut from his uniform. Also, an original Mar. 15, 1945 memorandum from the 101st headquarters listing those to be present for ceremonies surrounding the first issuance of a Presidential Citation to an army division, with mention of the regiment's participation in D-Day, Market Garden, and the defense of Bastogne. An original 7" x 9" photo showing Selgrat lakeside at Berchtesgaden in June, 1945 is included , along with several dozen clippings and a typed article by Selgat, a PR executive, all concerning the 101st. Very good.
