Notated speech by John F. Kennedy to the Massachusetts Federation of Labor. First page of speech dated 12 August 1952 with notes in JFK's hand: ''Massachusetts'' followed by two illegible words, one underlined -- perhaps a person's name, and then ''Disability insurance ?''. At the time, JFK was a U.S. Congressman and delivered this speech while campaigning for office of Senator for Massachusetts, which he achieved in November 1952. Speech reads in part, ''I cam [sic] here first in 1947 as a new member of Congress. 1947 was a year of great expectations; we looked forward to a world at peace. Now, six years later, in this summer of discontent, all that has changed and many of our glittering hopes of other years have turned to ashes around us. Abroad, we are faced by an enemy -- powerful, unrelenting and implacable -- who seeks to dominate the world by subversion and conspiracy and, when all else fails, by military force of which he now possesses, a substantial superiority. To those who are disillusioned about the advantages of democracy we must make our own system better for all of our citizens.'' Lot is comprised of page one and three of the speech, lacking the other pages. In near fine condition, with only a paper clip rust mark to upper left corner. Pages measure 8.5'' x 11''. A truly unique item, perfect for framing.
