Single silver bead sight on the smooth rib, which is signed "Joseph Manton PATENT (illegible word)", and each side of the breech is marked with a gold proof stamp marked "JOSEPH/ MANTON/ PATENT" next to a crown, with a gold wash around the touchholes. Each of the lock plates are marked "JOSEPH MANTON/ LONDON" under the fenced flash pans, with light engraving, gravity driven safety catches and rolled equipped frizzens, extractor and double triggers. The recoil plate is heavily engraved, and the trigger guard bears a stand of arms and a pineapple finial. Checkered straight wrist stock, with silver wedge escutcheons, shadow-line cheekpiece and a flat buttplate with engraved heel. With a green felt lined hardwood case, 3 screwdrivers, a leather and brass shot bag, 3-piece ramrod, a Sykes Patent leather bodied powder flask, a touchhole cleanout tool, wadcutter, measured powder holder and spare flints. Length of pull is 14 inches.

Condition: Fine, with 70% of the original brown twist finish on the barrel, with well defined gray streaks and a small amount of pitting. Locks are bright. Stock is also fine, with some cracks and chips concentrated around the locks, along with some light pressure dents and handling marks. The locks need work, as the left trigger does not reach the sear bar, but the right lock is fine (left hammer is retracted and will not fall). Case is good, with some cracks and warping of the lid, a replaced inner compartment lid, staining of the label and minimal wear on the lining.
