All letters are addressed to John B. Megahan and relate to his application for “appointment to the position of Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” as well as to his eventual resignation. On October 4, 1946, Hoover informs Megahan that he has “been recommended for promotion from the position of Special Agent…Grade CAF 10, to the position of Special Agent…Grade CAF 11.” Two letters are dated February 19, 1947, and reference Megahan’s desire to resign, with one mentioning his decision to leave the FBI “in order to accept a position with the Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation.” Includes a three-page Western Union telegram from Hoover to Megahan, dated March 21, 1943, a War Service Certificate from the FBI issued to Megahan and bearing a preprinted Hoover signature, and various correspondence from Megahan and other FBI officials relating to his Special Agent status. In overall fine condition.
