Impressive Brydon Bros, Los Angeles, California Parade Saddle
Elegant 1920s Brydon Bros sterling silver mounted Buffalo theme saddle featuring eight, three-dimensional Bison headed conchos decorating jockeys, skirts plus matching Martingale. The saddle with its 15” seat and gorgeous 5” high cantle, is believed to have been made for a rancher from Kings County, California as reflected by research into California brand books of the period. Note the M on the back of the cantle as well as the Curb Bit brand on the bull, carved into the fender. The saddle is beautifully floral carved with outstanding silver work and fully rawhide laced edges on the skirts, fenders and jockeys. The signature detail are the eight 2 1/2" to 3" cast ruby-eyed buffalo conchos plus another 3" concho on the martingale. These conchos were custom-made especially for this saddle and have not appeared on any other Brydon products. It appears to have over 400 small 1/2" hand engraved silver conchos decorate the edges. The horn, gullet and cantle are covered in a hand formed silver rope edge binding. The martingale is covered in 45 graduated hand engraved matching conchos ranging in size from 1/2" to 1 1/4" plus the large buffalo in the center. PROVENANCE: Acquired by consigner from a member of the Kines family whose patriarch rode it in the Sacramento Sheriff’s Posse back in the 1960s. Mr. Kines purchased the saddle in the 1940s from a Sacramento family whose husband was a member of the elite Santa Barbara men's riding group, the Rancheros Visitadores.
