Model of 1798, German-made as is typical. The gilded hilt with elaborately-embellished pommel and quillon terminal and double-clamshell guard, the outer folding and set with a finely-wrought and engraved silver Imperial Russian double-headed eagle, with silver wire gripwrap. The straight, single-edged blade fullered and etched with stands of arms and floral sprays on either side. The right forte struck with a maker's mark in the form of a balance, and etched at the spine, FELDSTEIN & BERGER, CASSEL. In its steel scabbard.First half of the 19th century. Gilding somewhat worn.
