Horseman’s size percussion Chieftains pistol, made for export to Middle East, signed Plachat A. St. Etienne on lock. Silver mounted, gold damascened, with silver wire-inlaid stock. Pistol measures 22”overall, 14-1/2” barrel, approx. .69 caliber smooth bore. The lock and breech show 20-30% gold damascened finish. The backgrounds originally bright blued, now drifted to brown, some scattered rust erosion and lightto moderate pitting. The triggerguard, buttcap, ramrod pipes show a silver finish but no hallmarks. The stock was elaborately silver inlaid with wire, of which approx. 10-20% remains, the rest missing. The actionis not working, action is missing. A formidable ornate pistol in its day intended for the tents of the Sultans and Chieftains. Est: $750 - $1,500
