Handwritten and hand-signed letter by Yitzchak Avineri, 1938, addressed to the Histadrut Labor Union in Tel Aviv. *Yitzchak Avineri (July 24, 1900 - August 30, 1977) was a linguist, researcher, and renewer of the Hebrew language. Avineri renewed dozens of Hebrew words, including: bestseller, orange, indictment, staffing, knowledge, birth rate, wrinkle, elimination, manufacture and manufacturer, and more. He wrote hundreds of essays that were published in various journals, wrote and edited the language section of the newspapers Al Hamishmar and Davar, a colomn that was later collected and published as a few hundred-page book entitled Yad Halashon. Chaim Nachman Bialik, a friend and acquaintance, called him "The Minister of the Hebrew Language". Yoav Karni eulogized him as the "Guardian of the Walls" of the Hebrew language - due to his uncompromising war in what were distortions in language and syntax.
Avineri wrote books on language, most of which are now used for research due to their historical and documentary value. He was also editor of the cooperation calendar of the Land and State of Israel for 48 years.
