*H&R Little Bighorn Commemorative .45-70
SN: LBH74 Beautifully ornate, one of a kind rifle commemorating 1st Sergeant Frederick Hohmeyer. In 1976 H&R produced a series of 268 Springfield Model 1873s to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana, one for each soldier who died in the battle. This included 25 officers and 243 enlisted men. The officer's guns were more highly embellished according to rank with General Custer's, the highest, selling at $25,000, followed by Tom Custer's selling at $15,000. Each of the guns were heavy relief engraved and inlaid with each casualties name, enlisted date, company, position, and whose command he was killed. The rifle remains in excellent condition and is engraved and finished as follows: The right side of the BBL is engraved "1st Serg't. Frederick Hohmeyer, E co. 7th U.S. Cavalry." The left side is engraved "Enlister-May 10, 1875, Born-Darmstadt,Ger.1849." The forward trigger guard tang is engraved "W.C." indicating the command he was killed under. The rear tang is engraved "Killed-June 25, 1876-Action With Indians-Little Big Horn River, MT." The rifle features highly figural piano finished walnut stock, deep blue finish to the BBL, breech block, saddle ring, trigger, and guard. The receiver, hammer, BBL band and trigger guard tang are high polished, and the steel butt plate is finished in vivid, bright case colors. Included are supporting paperwork and a mahogany fitted case. This is a beautiful and historically interesting rifle of fine quality. ***C&R Firearm*** ***Modern Firearm***
