The lot features an exquisite fully beaded bandolier (bandoleer) bag attributed to the Native American Indian tribes of the Great Lakes Woodlands region and dating to circa 1880-1890. The bag shows a historic and important unique design showing three separate and coexisting patterns in a traditional geometric pattern and two traditiona geometric and floral patterns. The bandolier bag shows an early original trade clothe construction with sinew and trade thread craftsmanship and excellent original 19th Century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork shows immensely beautiful design with the central square pouch showing a chalk white background with a geometric pattern in semi-transparent blue, red white hearts, black, Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent amber, medium green, and a butterscotch yellow all framed in an incredible fancy border with padre sky blue seed beads. The bottom edge of the bag shows seven loom like beaded fringed rectangular sections in matching colors with rare German Town (Germantown) red and blue yarn fringe. Along the fully beaded top strap their shows two patterns with the right having a sky padre blue background and the left having a semi-transparent background. The strap shows such beautiful bead colors as greasy yellow, semi-transparent amber, semi-transparent green, red white hearts, semi-transparent blue, Cheyenne pink, black, and a semi-transparent dark blue. The back shows an early red trade wool clothe construction with blue trade clothe fringe and outer edge with the strap showing a striped calico trade clothe backing with tan outer edge. The piece truly shows some of the finest early beadwork with intricate symbols and colors of any other bandolier bag from the Great Lakes region brought to public sale. This is truly an excellent piece. Provenance: From a large historic Early Cowboy and Native American Indian collection in Bozeman, Montana. Other similar examples with less prominent craftsmanship and beadwork have sold at Allard Auction in 2010 for $5,400, at Jackson’s Auction in 2004 for $5,000, at Cowan’s Auction in 2013 for $7,200, and as high as $43,200 at Cowan’s Auction 2014.
