TLS - Typed Letter Signed
Nobel Prize-winning chemist (1912-1999) who was instrumental in the discovery of several elements. TLS signed “Glenn T. Seaborg,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory letterhead, April 4, 1990. Letter to William Stanhope, in part: "Perhaps the most important breakthrough that led to the award to me of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was the realization that the heaviest elements—thorium, protactinium and uranium—and the first 11 transuranium elements should be members of an actinide transition series. Thus, they would be placed below the Periodic Table in parallel with the rare earth (lanthanide) elements. This concept occurred to me during July 1944 while I was working at the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago on the Manhattan District program." In fine condition.
