Influential German philosopher (1770-1831) who espoused a dialectical method by which an idea (thesis) was challenged by its opposite (antithesis) and the two ultimately reconciled into a third idea (synthesis). Extremely rare ALS in German, signed “Prof. Hegel,” one page, 5 x 5.75, March 22, 1826. Letter to the Judicial Council and theater critic Friedrich Schulz. In part (translated): "In the pleasant hope that you have given me recently to be allowed to visit you, I am so glad to ask you if you can come to-night, and in this case ask you to give me this evening." In fine condition, with light show-through from old mounting tape along a reverse edge, and trimming to the integral address leaf. A fabulous, boldly penned autograph letter from the revered idealist philosopher.
