Zayd al-'Utbi, ca. 728-730, AR damma (0.36g), NM, ND, A-O1493, obverse text Allah ahad Allah al-samad // reverse mâ amara bihi tamim bin zayd, with just mâ instead of the full word mimmâ; nice strike, VF, RRR. Two examples, same condition, sold in our Auction 30, Lots 2320 and 2321, for $1100 and $1000, respectively. Tamim b. Zayd was the first Muslim governor to issue silver dammas in Sind. The full Umayyad dirham was struck about 14 years earlier at al-Daybul, the coastal city of Sind, dated only AH95 (Klat-377) and without the name of a governor.
