GEORGE, Ernest.- Etchings in Belgium. With descriptive letterpress. London, Seeley, Jackson, Halliday, 1878. In-f° : 30 eaux-fortes. Rel. de l'époque : plein maroquin brun, 3 roulettes ornées dorées cernant les plats dont le sup. est titré doré, dos à nerfs, montage sur onglets (coins, coupes, mors et nerfs fort frottés).
Premier tirage de ce recueil de gravures réalisées par le peintre, aquarelliste et graveur Ernest George (Londres 1839-1922). Il étudia l'architecture à la Royal Academy School de Londres, fut membre de la Royal Society of Palmer-Etchers and Engravers (1881) et de la Society of British Artists (1889). Il voyagea en Europe et réalisa ses premiers recueils de monuments architecturaux de villes en 1873. Il continua ensuite avec des vues prises en France ("Etchings on the Loire"), Pays-Bas, Belgique, Allemagne et Italie.
Pour cet album, George souligne la "sweet harmony throughout each street and canal" des villes de Belgique et précise que les dessins, qui serviront aux gravures, ont été réalisés à l'aube ou au crépuscule, lorsque la lumière était la plus belle et soulignait le mieux la dentelle de pierre des édifices. Bruges, Gand, Trounai, Bruxelles, Malines, Anvers, Huy, Dinant, Liège, Oudenaerde, Ypres et Louvain ont été valorisées par le talent de l'artiste.
Chaque vue est tirée sur fin papier vergé collé sur papier fort par le bord sup. et suivie d'une explication.
Exemplaire enrichi d'un envoi autographe : " Mrs Fredk. St. Leaf [?] with the author's sincere regards, nov. 1877". 450 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 EUR will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Euro's. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 EUR or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Euro's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
