This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bronze sculpture titled "The Scout". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This sculpture shows the frontier scout in pursuit on foot. The piece shows wonderful detail and action. The bronze sits on a solid walnut hardwood base with a brass placard that reads "Scout G.C. Wentworth". The bronze is signed by the artist. It is dated "1978" and is numbered 3/15. The piece shows very good condition. It measures 7.5" x 10" and is 16.5" tall. The bronze originally sold in the gallery for $2,000.
