This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bronze sculpture titled "Lt. Col. Fremont". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This sculpture shows Lt. Colonel John Fremont with a scope in his hand and his 1866 Mississippi rifle at the ready. The piece shows wonderful detail and excellent artistic ability. The bronze rests upon a solid walnut hardwood base with a brass placard that reads "Lt. Col. John C. Fremont Circa 1860 G.C. Wentworth". The sculpture shows the artist's signature with a date of "1977" and is numbered 4/20. The bronze is in very good condition. It measures 7.5" x 14" and is 17.5" tall. Comes with a printed biography of the artist and a Certificate of Authenticity. The original gallery retail price for this bronze was $3,500.
