French Style AN IX Flintlock Musketoon, as contracted from Beretta in Brescia, NVSN, .69 cal. (17.5mm), 30'' bright barrel, walnut stock, correct ramrod and bayonet. These musketoons are difficult to find in original flintlock configuration. Apparently the area of Brescia was occupied by the French in 1797, and Beretta was awarded a Good Service certificate from Napoleon Bonaparte for supplying approx. 40,000 muskets to his Grand Armee. After that area gained its independence in 1814, Beretta made similar muskets and musketoons for the Sardinian army. This sideplate is marked ''Paris e Beretta/in Brescia''. Condition is fine to near excellent showing light marks from handling, very minor toning to metal surfaces, with good action and very good bore. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)
