We offer a terrific Napoleon III inkstand in the shape of a fox made in bronze. Very much in the style of Bayre, the famous animalier, we cannot detect a signature.
As indicated in the picture the head is hinged and there is a place for ink inside. The porcelain container, however is no longer with the piece. Beside the fox is a rather large hat which probably facilitated the mixing of ink,or alternatively held sand to assist in drying the ink. The shovel like implement carried by the fox is probably to lean the quill.
In really great condition.
Underneath there is a velvet circle attached to a plaster filling to add extra weight to the piece.
