Fr. 1132-C $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG
Fr. 1132-C $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Fine 25. Philadelphia is one of the rarest districts for 1918 $500 Feds with only five pieces on the census. One of those five, the serial number 1 note, is permanently impounded in the Smithsonian--leaving only four notes available for collectors. This handsome Very Fine was last on the market in the November 1985 Hickman & Oakes auction where Tom acquired it. This is the only Fr. 1132-C seen by PMG. The most recent auction sale of a Very Fine Fr. 1132-C was the PCGS 20, which realized $39,100 last March. We sold a raw Fine 15 for $21,850 in February 2005. The note has wonderful appearance for the 25 grade. It is clearly circulated a bit, but has avoided the marks, writing, and stains which are associated with these high denomination Feds. It also has wonderful color and broad margins. A highly important note.
From The Thomas M.
