Flintlock Fowling Piece, marked Pierre A Oetting, 20 ga., 44-3/4'' half-round half-octagon barrel, right finish, carved European walnut stock, with brass font sight inlaid into muzzle. Mfg'd circa 1725. Made in Bavaria. Condition is good. Barrel is finished bright; lock sports heavily engraved panels signed ''Pierre a Oetting''. Cock is cracked; top jaw is larger than the bottom and may be replaced. Stock is relief carved in a floral pattern, showing several cracks and breaks and extensive restoration. Furniture is beautifully cast in brass with a floral pattern throughout; left side shows scene of dogs and deer in filigree work; cast triggerguard with a floral pattern. The fore-end cap appears to be replaced with a type of alabaster. Ramrod is a later replacement. Johann Wolf Peter (1664-1732) was gunmaker to the Princes ™ttingen-™ttingen. Est.: $2,500-$3,500.
