Fine WWII German 98K ZF41 Sniper Rifle and Metal Can
This is a fine example of a standard K98 rifle that was fitted with the ZF41 sharpshooters rifle scope. These scopes were 1.5 power and were actually intended as a low-cost shooting aid for the German soldier allowing him to increase hit probability at extended ranges. They were mounted forward from the receiver to not interfere with the function of the rifle. This rifle is a late 1944 production manufactured by the Mauser factory, that has an original rear sight base with the scope mounting dovetail machined on the left side, that is made specifically for ZF-41 scopes. The receiver is marked "byf44" and Mod 98 on the receiver ring. The right side of the receiver and the upper rear corner of the rear sight base have the correct eagle 135 acceptance proofs and the left side of the receiver and rear portion of the barrel have the large eagle firing proof as applied by the Mauser factory. The stock and handguard are the correct laminated versions that have a nice dark brown color from age. The rifle has the correct late style stamped and welded upper barrel band with a milled lower barrel band. The trigger guard and floor plate are both the late war stamped versions and the trigger guard itself has a double eagle 135 acceptance proof. The rifle is fitted with the correct late war laminated stock and handguard set, with the right side of the buttstock, the under side and pistol grip area each having a single WaA135 Waffenamt proof. The ZF41 scope is marked "963/fzg/ZF41" on the side of the tube and is fitted in a current reproduction mount that has been numbered on the side "8944g/eagle 214" proof. The scope is fitted with a set of original sunshades and is housed in an original ZF41 scope can with a cleaning cloth and lens brush inside, with an old piece of medical tape running down the side that is marked "LT. COL. COLE". The rifle is complete with a cleaning rod, reproduction front sight cover and original leather cross-hatched sling.
