Factory Engraved Savage Model 1899-A Lever Action Rifle with Roe Clark Letter
In the included letter, arms historian Roe S. Clark states that the Savage factory records confirm the serial number, the caliber, grade "A-2" Special rifle with engraved leaf design and checkered stock, and the rifle was shipped on July 3, 1912 to Kelly-How-Thomson Company, a distributor in Duluth. Marble Sheard blade front sight and Marble's folding adjustable leaf rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address/patent dates on the top, "SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL / MODEL 1899" on the left side, and "SAV. 303" at the breech. The sides of the receiver feature a vine and leaf engraving. Cocking indicator on the upper tang and checkered Schnabel forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Condition: Fine. The rifle retains 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina with some scattered minor pitting and mild spotting. The lever retains some strong traces of vivid original case colors with the balance a smooth silver-gray patina. The stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches along with some minor bruising in the checkering.
