Edgar Hoover, 9/20/40"; and a hardcover first edition of American Agent, published by Doubleday in 1936, signed and inscribed on the first free end page in fountain pen, "To Senator Olin D. Johnston, With all my best wishes, Sincerely, Melvin Purvis." Senator Johnston's ownership signature is above Purvis's presentation inscription. In overall very good, with toning to the signed Purvis page, and cracked front hinges to both books.
