Original painting accomplished in tempera and oil on board depicting a lush stylized landscape of groves of trees, dense hedges and misty mountains in vivid shades of green and stark black. Earle successfully synthesized diverse aspects into his distinctive style which is both otherworldly and representative of the grandeur and simplicity of the American countryside. Hired in 1951 by Walt Disney Studio as an assistant background painter, Earle painted the settings for Peter Pan, Paul Bunyan and Lady and the Tramp, and was responsible for the styling, background and colors for the highly acclaimed film, Sleeping Beauty, giving the film its magical, medieval look. He also painted the dioramas for Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland. Signed at the lower right “Eyvind Earle 65.” Measures 40 in. x 20 in. and housed in a custom frame measuring 30 in. x 50 in.
