Exceptional Pair of Engraved and Silver Banded Henry Deringer Pistols -A) Engraved Silver Banded Hen
A) This exceptional Henry Deringer is marked "DERINGER/PHILADELA" and "P" with zigzag sunburst markings on top of the breech plug a pair of German silver border bands, and "VI" on the underside of the breech plug and barrel. Deringer's address is repeated on the lock plate, with scroll engraving on the lock, side of the hammer, accent plate, reverse plate and trigger guard, with zigzags on the buttplate, shield and tip of the hammer, blossom patterns on the escutcheon and a pineapple finial. The barrel is finished with Deringer's unique "bronzing" process, which adds thin gray striping to the rich brown base color, lending the barrel a distinctive and attractive finish. Fitted with German silver furniture, brass blade and notch sights and mounted with a checkered fancy walnut stock, with a triangular inlay on the Schnabel tip and a bird's head butt.

A) Excellent plus. The barrel shows 99% of the original striped brown finish.The hammer, lock and bolster have an attractive smooth dark patina. The stock is excellent plus with a few small dings and sharp checkering. The silver is bright overall. The action is excellent.

B) Excellent. Approximately 99% of the original striped brown is present on the barrel, showing a few bright gray lines along the edges and strong definition of the lines and deep color in the panels. The casehardened parts are excellent showing strong traces of original case colors mixed with smooth dark patina. The stock is fine with gentle flaking of the varnish, some scattered pressure dents and sharp checkering. The action is excellent.
