William Scott served an apprenticeship with a Bury St. Edmunds gun maker, possibly Ben or Charles Parker. In 1865 the firm contributed to the perfection of the English shotgun by developing the standard spindle which connects the bolt to the top lever. Single front bead sight on the solid matted rib, chambered 2 3/4", choked improved modified/improved modified with an extractor. The breech end of the rib is marked "SCOTT'S / IMPROVED / BOLT" surrounded by scroll engraving, the top of the right barrel is marked rib is marked "W. & C. SCOTT & SON THE MONTE CARLO B 10 Gt CASTLE STREET REGENT CIRCUS LONDON ENGLAND" and the left side "MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL.". The barrel lug is marked with Birmingham proofs and makers marking and Birmingham appear on the water table. The bottom of the barrels are marked with the Whitworth sheaf of wheat trade mark and the breech face is marked "PAT GAS CHECK". The action, side locks, break lever, trigger guard and forearm hardware are nicely engraved with a fine English scroll pattern, in addition there is a blue rock pigeon in flight in oval panels on each side lock. Each side lock is marked "W & C SCOTT & SON". Double triggers, double under lugs, square cross bolt, manual tang mounted safety and mounted with checkered select English walnut splinter forearm with Scott's patented latch and round knob pistol grip stock with tear drop flats and replacement foam Trapdude recoil pad. The length of pull is 14 5/8".

Fine, partially refinished, the barrels and wood with 98% of the "re-blackened" finish remaining with a few small areas of light pitting and a few minor dings and scratches. The trigger guard retains 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The action and side plates retain 60% original case colors, fading on the side plates and bright on the front portion of the trigger guard plate and under the break lever. The balance has a smooth gray patina. The stock retains virtually all of the finish with only some very minor dings and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. The mechanics are excellent.
