Period, possibly factory engraved with floral scroll engraving on the side barrel flats, frame and front portion of the cylinder, with punch dot background on the frame as well. The barrel is also decorated with simple line designs, scallop designs on the top and back straps and a leaf design on the recoil shields. The revolver has been factory converted from percussion to metallic cartridge. Top barrel flat marked "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 MARCH 17 1863/ E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK U.S.A." / NEW MODEL". The bottom barrel flat is marked "25113" and the left side of the frame under the grip and the right grip panel are numbered "25117". The conversion cylinder and plate are numbered "3267". Fitted with smooth pearl grips. The engraving is in the Nimschke style and most likely done by one of the New York engravers.
BBL: 3 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 32 RF
Finish: nickel
Grips: pearl
Serial Number: 25117
Condition: Period re-plated with most of the dull nickel finish remaining. There is some flaking on the muzzle end of the barrel and on the front and back straps, and flash pitting on the upper portion of the frame ahead of the cylinder. The grips are very fine with scattered minor handling marks. The barrel marking is fading in places, but readable. The engraving remains crisp. The action is fine.
