This lot features a circa 1850, engraved percussion single shot .40 caliber pocket, or belt pistol. The small piece is much fancier than your standard percussion pistol, showing exceptional long checkered walnut grips, displaying a silver inlaid initial plate, and tasteful engravings on both sides of the receiver, on the tang, behind the hammer, and on the under-side of the trigger guard. The pistol shows two small proof marks, one on the underside of the barrel, and one about 1" behind, on the bottom of the receiver - These proof marks are believed to indicate Belgian manufacture. The pistol utilizes a central hammer, and a 3" full round barrel. In modern time, we have come to appreciate the historical importance of these small sidearms, being imported by the largest American Arms Dealers of the time, to be sold to all corners of the country. Many of these "Bulldog" revolvers found there way into the hands of Gold Field workers in California, and the booming mine towns of Montana, Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada, as well as both sides of the raging Civil War. Overall, the little pistol shows good condition for age, with excellent condition to the walnut grips, and a warm, aged patina on the metal surfaces. This pistol qualifies as an Antique Firearm, and does not require FFL Transfer, or NICS Background Check. No Serial Number.
