This large holster style flintlock pistol is marked "LAZARINO COMINAZZO" on top of the barrel at the breech end. The barrel is stepped and at the breech end (4 1/2") the sides are flat and the upper portion is grooved. The grooves extend onto the barrel tang. The barrel is fitted with a decorative brass front sight and there is no rear sight. The lock is nicely engraved with a crescent moon face behind the spring and hammer, with an arrangement of cannons and drums and scallop border. The brass mountings are decorated with deep relief engraving. The left side plate has a wooded hunting scene of a hunter and dog chasing a deer, the trigger guard with floral scroll designs on the buttcap with the bust of an ancient soldier on each side and scroll designs and the thumb plate with a crown and scroll designs. The full stock features a horn forend and carved floral scroll designs on the forearm area and around the barrel tang. Complete with a wooden ramrod with an ivory tip secured by two octagon brass pipes. There is a number "4" branded on right side of wrist rear of lock plate. Origin is unknown, but is well executed and definitely old.
BBL: 13 1/4 inch round
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Very good. The barrel has a smooth mottled gray patina. The lock and hammer remain bright. The brass has been cleaned at some time and areas are beginning to age. The stock is also very good with a minor repaired crack on the left side of the forearm, some minor scattered dings and dents and sharp carving. The engraving remains crisp. The action is fine.
