This lot makes available an early Meccano construction toy set. The collection is finished in red, green, and brass finishes, dating the set to the mid 1920's. Meccano has a long, and rich history, starting in 1901 in Liverpool, England, by an inventor by the name of Frank Hornby. Meccano lasted through the First Great War, but production seized for the Second Great War, in order to manufacture War Time goods for the effort, again production slowed during the Korean war due to a world-wide shortage of metal. Meccano is still produced to this day in Calais, France. This early set shows good condition for age, and use. The set comes in a wooden crate, and includes many flat strips, flats, brass gears, screws and bolts. The crate measures 16 1/8" wide, 9 7/8" deep, and 7 1/4" tall.
