For your consideration in this lot is a custom saddle, crafted by the Connolly Brothers, in Billings, Montana between 1912, and 1929. The Connolly Brothers (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) learned the ways of expert tack making from their Irish immigrant father, John Connolly. In 1907, the brothers relocated from Minneapolis to Butte, Montana, where Connolly Bros opened their first harness shop, only to move once again to Billings in 1912. This saddle shows trademark Connolly quality, and is marked in three places, showing the "Connolly - Billing, MONT." makers mark on the seat rise, and on the skirt, behind the cantle, and is additionally stamped on the latigo keeper. The saddle is fully-tooled, showing a floral motif across the whole saddle, reaching from the bottom of the fenders, to the top of the horn. The saddle is set off with copper hardware, brass rigging-dees, and double-stacked scalloped leather conchos. This saddle is brought to us by the late Bud Chapman, renowned Western collector from Bozeman, Montana. The saddle shows good condition, with supple, hydrated leather. The saddle utilizes a 14" seat.
